TEACHERS’ CHALLENGE AND STRATEGIES IN TEACHING SPEAKING IN KAMPUNG INGGRIS
Abstract
Abstract: Speaking is one of the most important language skills in learning English. Speaking can be defined as a person's ability to communicate orally using a foreign language fluently. Kampung Inggris is a popular English learning environment in Indonesia, usually attended by students or young people who want to improve their speaking skills. Teaching speaking in Kampung Inggris emphasizes intensive, round-the-clock learning in an English-speaking environment. This study aims to explore information about the challenges and strategies experienced by teachers in teaching English, especially speaking in Kampung Inggris. This research used qualitative research methods with the research subjects being 2 English teachers in Kampung Inggris. The researcher used two instruments, namely primary data in the form of semi-structured interviews and secondary data in the form of documents such as photographs. The researcher conducted interviews via WhatsApp with both participants and the researcher also recorded the answers given by both participants. The data obtained was analyzed using the embedded analysis method, namely transcribing, familiarizing, coding, creating themes and the last is interpretation. Researchers conducted trustworthiness in the form of member checking. The findings of this study are to find out the challenges and strategies of teachers in teaching English, especially speaking in Kampung Inggris. The results showed that teachers face challenges in making students dare to speak in public fluently using English, escape, love or not getting scholarships. The strategies used by teachers include giving speaking assignments in groups, role-play, two ways learning method, fun learning method, games, make it engaging and fun, focus on communication, solid foundation, cater to your students.
