Abstract

Abstract: Teaching practice is very influential in improving the ability of student teachers. In the current era, many universities collaborate with foreign schools to conduct the International Teaching Practicum (ITP) program. ITP is the topic of this research to become a bridge for student teacher candidates to transfer and practice the knowledge they have acquired. This study aims to answer the question: “What are the obstacles experienced by Indonesian English pre-service teachers when conducting International Teaching Practicum in Thailand and Malaysia, and what strategies are used to overcome the obstacles?†This research used qualitative methods with a case study design. In this study, we selected two teacher-training students at a private campus in Malang. These participants were selected because they had an International Teaching Practicum in Thailand and Malaysia and were willing to participate in this study. We used semi-structured interviews and documents in the data collection and used holistic analysis methods in analyzing the data. The finding of this study is the obstacles experienced by student teachers. In this study, researchers divided two obstacles: Teaching Problems and Sociocultural Problems. In Teaching Problems, the researcher divides again into 2 parts, namely Pre-teaching (an obstacle that occurs before teaching) and During Teaching (an obstacle that occurs when teaching in class)
