The impact of watching English vlog video on YouTube in increasing number of vocabularies in assisting student’s speaking fluency

Abstract: This research was aimed to know the impact of watching English vlog video on YouTube in increasing number of vocabularies in assisting student’s speaking fluency. It focused on how the benefit things of the vlog video in increasing student’s number of vocabularies, so that it indicates the improvement of their speaking’s fluency after they watch English vlog video on YouTube. The previous research just told about improving speaking skill by storytelling, it’s like directly practicing without preparation. Meanwhile here, we learn to understand the video and collect new vocabularies to be practiced in speaking activity, so that it improves the speaking fluency. The research designed of giving self-assessment through questionnaire by google form and requiring students to practice their speaking by explaining the vlog video content, after they watch the English vlog video on YouTube. The participants of this research are 15 students majoring English education department student at University of Islam Malang especially to the student’s academic year 2020/2021. The data of speaking was obtained by speaking test which was assessed through scoring rubric. The result is how the impact of student’s watching while listening to the vlogger English words, pronunciation, accent and the way talking. Whether the students can immediately collect new vocabularies and could be practiced in speaking activity for getting better speaking’s fluency.
