Coffee MSME Competitiveness in Halal Certified Product Diversification and Export Market Readiness
Abstract
Coffee is one of Indonesia's leading commodities, playing a crucial role in driving regional economic growth. Jember Regency, particularly Karangpring Village, has great potential to develop high-quality coffee due to its ideal geographic conditions. However, this potential has not yet been matched by farmers' and MSME actors' ability to meet quality standards, comply with business legal requirements, and access export markets. This community service program aims to strengthen the capacity of Karangpring Village residents through halal certification training, product diversification of coffee-based derivatives, and export literacy. The program employed the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, implemented through four stages: socialization, education, hands-on training, and evaluation, involving approximately 45 participants comprising coffee farmers and members of the Family Welfare Empowerment Group. The results show an increased awareness of the importance of business legality, the emergence of product innovations such as coffee bakpia, and the establishment of a Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) as a coordinator for production and marketing. Halal certification has proven to enhance consumer trust and open broader market opportunities for MSMEs. These outcomes align with Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through expanded productive capacity and income opportunities for rural communities, and with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the multi-stakeholder collaboration model established among the university, government agencies, BUMDes, and MSME actors. This program serves as a model of sustainable, export-oriented community empowerment that can be replicated in other regions with similar potential.
