[RETRACTED] Empowering Inmates through Digital-Based Entrepreneurship: A Study at Tangerang Class I Correctional Institution

Abstract


[RETRACTED] Business opportunities for the inmates of the Class I Correctional Institution in Tangerang City in the post-pandemic era represent a strategic initiative to support national economic recovery while enhancing individual independence. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly transformed lifestyles, employment patterns, and production systems, creating an urgent need for innovation and adaptation in developing relevant business opportunities. For inmates, this serves as an opportunity to reignite productivity through integrated approaches combining Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), Participatory Action Research (PAR), and Service Learning (SL). The ABCD approach emphasizes empowering existing inmate assets such as skills, creativity, and motivation; the PAR method ensures their active participation as co-creators in problem-solving and reflection; and the SL approach connects academic knowledge with social practice, facilitating collaboration between facilitators and inmates for transformative learning outcomes. This combination not only builds practical entrepreneurial and digital skills but also strengthens confidence, social responsibility, and readiness for reintegration after release. Supported by government, social institutions, and private sectors, the initiative serves as both economic empowerment and sustainable development practice, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), by fostering inclusive participation and equitable opportunities for all.
