THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT NUMBER OF OPTIONS IN MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST ITEMS ON THE ENGLISH SCORE

Abstract
This article aims at knowing the effect of different number of options in multiple choice test items on the students’ score. The research design in this study is quantitative research in form of experimental research. The subject of this study is the first grade students in Mathematics and Natural Science program, and it consists of 27 students. There was only one group in this study, which got two different multiple choice test questions, the first test is multiple choice test items with five options and the second test is multiple choice test items with four options. The multiple choice test items in this study were compiled from English worksheet book; consist of 22 items. The finding of this study showed that there is notable impact of different number of options in multiple choice test items resulted in the higher score die to the lower percentage of choosing the wrong option and the higher probability of guessing the correct answer.
