Abstract

The aim of this game is to make students enjoy speaking without worrying about being blamed and increase students' vocabulary knowledge in English. The research design for this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research participants selected in this study were students in the VIII grade (D) of the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, a total of 25 students. The data collection was carried out with a final test analyzed as quantitative data. The researchers used a percentage calculation formula based on Mistar (2007). The results of this study show, playing snakes and ladders games in teaching English, especially in teaching speaking and vocabulary makes students more interested in learning, students easily understand the material. The findings of this study show an increase in students' scores when they get a test. This can be seen from the test results which show that the average student score is 73.35 with the lowest score being 54 and the highest score being 92, as well as the percentage of students who scored 70. Based on these findings, it is suggested that further research improve the design of the snakes and ladders game media by making questions in the column of the board more challenging; it helps explore students' speaking skills and vocabulary skills.
