PENGARUH KENDALI GLUKOSA TERHADAP KADAR ZINC PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS TIPE 2 DI MALANG
Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder due to disruption of insulin activity, resulting in an increase of glucose concentration in the blood, or commonly called hyperglycemia. Hyperglycemia can also cause zinc serum interference because the micronutrients are involved in insulin signaling and action, also responsible in insulin sensitivity and secretion. This study will assess the effect of glucose control upon zinc serum levels of patients with type 2 DM.
Method: This research was analytic observational with cross sectional study using post-test only control group with human research subjects (respondents) male and female patients with diabetes mellitus without complications with an age range above 40 years. The research variables was classified into 2 groups, namely controlled group and uncontrolled group. Each control group of data respectively will depend on the zinc serum level using the Atomic Absorbtion Spectrometer (AAS). Data were analyzed using Independent T-Test followed by Pearson correlation test with a significance level of p<0.05.
Result: In patients with type 2 DM controlled group with an average zinc level of 30.8 ± 4.44 µg/dl higher than type 2 DM uncontrolled group with an average zinc level of 29.05 ± 4.45 µg/dl and did not contain significant differences with the p value = 0.826.
Conclusion: Glucose control has no role in serum zinc levels towards patients with DM type 2.
