Socialization of Waste Management Through “Kata†Waste Bank in Banjarsari Village, Ngajum, Malang

Abstract

Garbage is one of the topics related to environmental hygiene. Environmental hygiene issues are currently one of the priorities that are being addressed. Increasing public awareness of a clean and waste-free life is our common goal, not only for people in urban areas but also in rural areas. The Banjarsari Village community lacks knowledge and awareness about the importance of keeping the environment clean and how to properly manage waste, which can be seen from the large number of Banjarsari Village residents who throw their garbage into the garden to be burned and even thrown into the river. To increase public awareness of concern for the environment, continuous education is needed to change people's habits and mindset. This socialization was designed with the aim of increasing public awareness to dispose of waste in place and educating the public about sustainable waste management through waste banks. The method of implementing KSM-T activities is carried out in the form of socialization by involving the government and the community directly. The result of the activity is an increase in public knowledge of the importance of keeping the environment clean through sustainable waste management through the waste bank. It can be seen from several people who have started to participate in waste sorting which will be collected and saved in the waste bank as well as their living environment which is free of waste.
