PERAN ISTRI KARIER DALAM MEMBANGUN KELUARGA SAKINAH (Studi Kasus di Kecamatan Singosari, Kabupaten Malang)

Abstract

This study examines the role of career wives in building a sakinah family (harmonious Islamic family) in Singosari District, Malang Regency. The growing participation of married women in the workforce creates complex dual-role dynamics between professional and domestic responsibilities. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research explores real-life experiences, role management strategies, and gender analysis from four married couples in which the wives are employed in the formal sector. The findings reveal that career wives build sakinah families through four strategies: disciplined time management, leveraging family support, task delegation, and open communication with husbands. Dual roles simultaneously produce role strain (physical and emotional exhaustion) and role enhancement (increased self-confidence, financial independence, and marital appreciation). A gradual shift toward more egalitarian gender relations is occurring, though social stigma persists. This study confirms that modernity and Islamic values on the sakinah family can be synergized through equal partnership between husband and wife.
