DISHARMONI KELUARGA SEBAGAI ANCAMAN TERHADAP ḤIFẒ AL-NAFS DAN ḤIFẒ AL-'AQL: BUKTI EMPIRIS PADA MAHASISWA HUKUM KELUARGA ISLAM
Abstract
This study explores the correlation between family disharmony and emotional disturbances among students of the Islamic Family Law Program at the Islamic University of Malang within the framework of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, focusing on ḥifẓ al-nafs (protection of the soul) and ḥifẓ al-‘aql (protection of reason). Positioned within Islamic legal values and mental health discourse, the research investigates how family instability affects psychological well-being in early adulthood. Employing a correlational quantitative design, the study used the DASS-21 scale and a six-item disharmony scale based on Olson’s family systems theory. The sample consisted of 126 students selected from a population of 205 using Slovin’s formula. The study also included a thematic analysis of qualitative data derived from student narratives on coping. The findings indicate a strong and significant positive correlation between family disharmony and emotional disturbances (r = 0.654, p = 0.040), with regression analysis revealing that 42.8% of the variance in emotional disturbances is explained by family disharmony (R² = 0.428). Thematic data revealed coping patterns, including prayer, solitude, and peer support, underscoring the emotional and spiritual needs. These results suggest that emotional disorders stemming from family disharmony pose a systemic threat to core Islamic objectives, demanding both institutional and spiritual responses.
