STUDI ANALISIS KEBUTUHAN RUANG PARKIR DI PASAR BABAT KABUPATEN LAMONGAN

Abstract


Congestion at the research location arises from several interacting causes, including drivers who disregard traffic rules, the lack of on-site traffic officers, vehicles parked along the road edge, the absence of marked pedestrian crossings, and the mixing of different vehicle types on the same lane. On-street parking is one of the persistent problems within Indonesia's land transportation sector. As the largest traditional market in Lamongan Regency, Babat Market is expected to provide parking space sufficient for every visiting vehicle. Direct field observation, however, showed that the existing parking area could not accommodate the actual demand. This study was therefore carried out to design an alternative layout that sharpens parking markings and expands overall parking capacity. Calculated parking space requirements (KRP) at Babat Market, Lamongan Regency, are 642 m² for motorcycles, 2,277 m² for light vehicles, 427.9 m² for heavy vehicles, and 280.8 m² for non-motorized vehicles. Over the seven hours of observation, motorcycle parking volume peaked at 2,740 vehicles, while the 542 m² motorcycle area itself has a maximum capacity of 361 vehicles. Motorcycle parking accumulation reached its highest point at 121 vehicles on Sunday between 8:45 and 9:00 a.m. WIB, and turnover peaked at 6.7 vehicles per space across the seven-hour observation. Occupancy for motorcycles reached its maximum on Thursday at 119% between 1:00 and 1:15 p.m. WIB, while the longest average parking duration, 1.99 hours per vehicle, occurred on Wednesday within the same time window. As a solution to the shortfall, a second-floor parking extension is proposed for the Babat Market building.
