PENGARUH PEMBERIAN REWARD TERHADAP MOTIVASI BELAJAR SISWA PADA MATA PELAJARAN PAI DI SMAN 1 KOTA MALANG

Abstract

This study examines whether providing rewards can significantly influence students’ motivation to learn Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SMAN 1 Kota Malang, addressing the problem of low enthusiasm and passive classroom behavior among high school learners. Positioned within the framework of Islamic education, the research highlights the role of reward as an external reinforcement that may foster responsibility, engagement, and character development. Using a quantitative experimental approach with a pretest–posttest design, data were collected from 66 students through motivation questionnaires and analyzed using validity, reliability, normality, homogeneity tests, and a paired sample t-test. The findings demonstrate a statistically significant improvement in students’ motivation after receiving rewards, reflected in increased enthusiasm, participation, discipline, and responsibility. The results suggest that rewards not only strengthen extrinsic motivation but also contribute to the internalization of intrinsic values aligned with Islamic educational principles. This research confirms that a well-structured and transparent reward system is an effective pedagogical strategy to enhance classroom climate, encourage active participation, and support both academic achievement and moral formation in the context of PAI learning.
