English for Young Learner Teachers’ in Conducting Vocabulary Assessments

Abstract


This research is a case study conducted in SDIT Insan Mulia Malang. in order to: 1) to know teachers’ of SDIT Insan Mulia Malang understanding about vocabulary assessment for young learners especially and 2) to identify strategies used by those teachers in assessing young learners’ vocabulary mastery. The subjects of this research are 4 English teachers of SDIT Insan Mulia Malang. The data collection is trough interview. The finding of the research showed that teaching experience and education background of the teachers were in line with the various strategies used in the conducting vocabulary assessment. The more experience they have, the more variety strategy they used. The higher education level, the more appropriate strategies were applied. Suggestions proposed in order to enhance knowledge of assessing English for young learner; first, teachers should increase their professional development; then government should facilitate the teachers to develop teachers’ proficiency by conducting seminars or training program on how teaching English for young learners.
