STRATEGI GURU DALAM MENINGKATKAN MINAT BACA SISWA SEKOLAH NEGERI PETUNGSEWU 01 DAU MALANG

Abstract

Observations made by researchers at Petungsewu State Elementary School 1 Dau Malang. Students at the school have a low interest in reading because of family background which incidentally is a farmer or worker in the peberbunan. Moreover, the mindset of parents who think that a child does not need to go to a higher level of education results in low student interest in learning. Seeing this, the teacher as a determinant of student success in learning needs to apply appropriate strategies in teaching reading skills to elementary students.The focus of this research is about the strategies used by teachers to increase student interest in reading at Petungsewu 1 Dau Malang Elementary School. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of descriptive qualitative research. Data obtained from teachers and students as research subjects were collected using observation and interview techniques.The results showed that the teacher accustomed students to read in the morning before class began. In addition, the teacher also held a one-day learning movement in the Library to make students familiar with reading books. Through this strategy, students who cannot read slowly become fluent reading.
