IMPLEMENTASI PROGRAM BIMBINGAN MEMBACA PADA SISWA UNTUK MENGATASI KESULITAN MEMBACA KELAS BAWAH DI SEKOLAH DASAR

Abstract

Reading is a complex skill that must be learned and practiced, especially for elementary school students who are newly introduced to letters, syllables, and words. Many students face difficulties in recognizing letters, pronouncing syllables, and reading simple sentences. Reading enhances intelligence, creativity, and imagination in understanding the meaning of any text. Initial reading instruction focuses on recognizing letters, words, and simple sentences, as well as understanding meaning based on each student’s daily experiences. This study aims to describe the reading guidance program, its implementation, and its results in overcoming reading difficulties among lower-grade students at SD Islam NU Papar, Kediri Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews, direct observation, and document study, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show: the principal established program objectives and appointed personnel; the coordinator arranged the work program, schedule, and participant lists; reading ability mapping was conducted at the start of the school year; graded reading materials were used; guidance was delivered classically and individually; teachers provided continuous motivation; student progress was recorded on achievement cards; and students practiced regularly to advance their reading levels. This program effectively improved students’ reading skills, learning enthusiasm, self-confidence, and active participation in all learning activities.
