PERAN GURU DALAM MEMOTIVASI BELAJAR AL-QUR’AN SISWA DI SEKOLAH RENDAH ISLAM MADRASAH UTHMANIAH ABIM MALAYSIA

Abstract

Teacher motivation plays a crucial role in boosting student enthusiasm for learning the Qur'an, particularly at the primary school level. This study aims to describe the strategies teachers employ to motivate students to learn the Qur'an, identify the teachers' roles in fostering student learning motivation, and examine the challenges faced during the learning process at Madrasah Uthmaniah ABIM Islamic Primary School, Malaysia. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consist of the Head of the Qur'an Department and Qur'an teachers at the school. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that: (1) teachers implement strategies such as storytelling regarding the meanings of Qur'anic verses, applying tarbiah (educational nurturing) and tadarruj (gradual progression) approaches, and creating an enjoyable learning environment; (2) teachers fulfill various roles as motivators, murabbi (educators/mentors), facilitators, spiritual guides, and partners in developing students' motivation and love for the Qur'an; and (3) key challenges include disparities in students' Qur'an reading abilities, varying family backgrounds, and limited instructional time. Therefore, effective teacher roles combined with appropriate motivational strategies contribute significantly to enhancing student motivation to learn the Qur'an.
