Interactive Effects of Organic–Inorganic Fertilizer Ratios and Benzyl Amino Purine on Growth and Yield of Watercress (Nasturtium officinale R. Br.)

Abstract


This study aimed to determine the effects of the combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers and Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP) on the growth and yield of watercress (Nasturtium officinale R. Br.). The experiment was conducted at the Filant Corp Screen House, Batu City, from December 2025 to January 2026. A factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of two factors was employed. The first factor was the ratio of organic and inorganic fertilizers, consisting of two levels: B1 (1:1) and B2 (1:2). The second factor was BAP concentration, consisting of four levels: P1 (0,25 mg L-1), P2 (0,50 mg L-1), P3 (0,75 mg L-1), and P4 (1,00 mg L-1). Each treatment combination was replicated three times with two sample plants per replication, resulting in a total of 48 experimental plants. The results showed a significant interaction between the combination of organic–inorganic fertilizers and BAP concentration on several growth and yield parameters of watercress. The combination of an organic–inorganic fertilizer ratio of 1:1 and BAP at 0,75 mg L-1 produced the best performance, with a total fresh weight of 50,73 g plant-1 and a marketable fresh weight of 28.63 g plant-1. These findings indicate that the combined application of organic–inorganic fertilizers at a 1:1 ratio and BAP at 0,75 mg L-1 effectively enhanced the growth and yield of watercress.
