Analisis Optimalisasi Wakaf Tunai dalam Mendukung Keberlanjutan Dana Pondok Pesantren (Studi Kasus Pada Pondok Pesantren Darul Ulum Al-Fadholi Lowokwaru Malang)

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the role, management, and challenges of cash waqf in supporting the sustainability of funding at Darul Ulum Al‑Fadholi Lowokwaru Islamic Boarding School in Malang. The methodology is descriptive qualitative, employing in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation for data collection.

The findings indicate that cash waqf plays a crucial role as an alternative funding source, particularly in covering the boarding school’s operational programs and developmental initiatives through productive investment. The management of cash waqf at this boarding school involves planning funding sources, selecting business types (canteen, cooperative), allocating business revenues for building student facilities and welfare, and conducting regular monitoring to ensure the continuity of cash waqf. However, several obstacles remain: (1) limited public understanding  (2) the boarding school’s waqf management often lacks specialized expertise in Islamic financial management and (3) insufficient strategies for waqf promotion and marketing.

Based on these findings, it is recommended that the waqf managers at Darul Ulum Al‑Fadholi Islamic Boarding School enhance the capabilities of the nazhirs through cash waqf management training, implement a transparent financial information system, expand educational activities, and actively promote cash waqf. The implementation of these recommendations is expected to maximize the potential of cash waqf and ensure the financial self‑reliance of Darul Ulum Al‑Fadholi Lowokwaru Islamic Boarding School.
