Abstract


SS 400 steel contains the elements carbon (C), manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), sulfur (S), phosphorus (P), but over time it can experience corrosion caused by sea water. So the steel's resistance to corrosion rate can be changed using the Heat Treatment (Hardening) process. The method used is experimental, the calculation uses the Weight Loss Method. The results in this study show that the tests on steel which were tested at different heat treatment temperatures, namely 850 ºC, 975 ºC and 1100 ºC, consisting of 36 specimens with immersion for a period of 25 days, 35 days and 45 days on SS 400 steel experienced increase and decrease in the rate of corrosion
