Pengaruh Financial Technology (Fintech) Terhadap Perilaku Manajemen Finansial pada Generasi Z Kota Malang Dimediasi oleh Locus of Control

Abstract


The advancement of technology has driven the emergence of financial technology (fintech), offering convenience in financial management, especially for Generation Z. However, such convenience also poses the risk of encouraging consumptive behavior if not accompanied by adequate self-control. This study aims to examine the effect of fintech on financial management behavior among Generation Z in Malang City, with locus of control as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with 110 respondents. The results show that fintech does not directly affect financial management behavior, but locus of control significantly fully mediates the relationship. These findings indicate that the impact of fintech usage on financial behavior largely depends on an individual’s level of self-control. Therefore, improving financial literacy and strengthening psychological factors such as locus of control are essential to promote better financial management behavior among Generation Z.
