Abstract


ABSTRACT

Introduction: The increasing bacterial infection thath tret by using antibiotic can lead an antibiotic resistance. Herb combination such as E.scaber can increase the antibiotic effectivity and reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance. But, E.scaber as adjuvant has different interaction effect that caused by contains of many fraction. Therefore, further research need to study the effect of additional E.scaber extract fraction to antibiotic against S.aureus and E.coli.

Methods: Zone of inhibition test was used Kirby-Bauer method to determine antibacterial effect. It’s interaction determined using Ameri-Ziaei Double Antibiotic Synergism Test (AZDAST). Phytochemical test interpretated by using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) fitokimian test by dragendorff reagent, FeCl3, and formaldehyde .

Results: Synergistic effect showed by combination of amoxicillin and F23 against S.aureus with combination ZOI 10,33±1,5mm, single chloramphenicol 0,0mm, and single E.scaber extract were 0,0mm. Fraction 25 showed antagonistic effect with chloramphenicol against S.aureus with combination ZOI 0,0mm, single chloramphenicol 25,67±2,0mm, and single E.scaber extract were 0,0mm. Methanolic extract E.scaber contains phenol, alkaloid, steroid, and terpenoid.

Conclusion: E.scaber fraction 23 extract show synergistic interaction with amoxicillin against S.aureus and it potential to be an antibiotic adjuvant against S.aureus
