Abstract

Introduction:The right antibiotic infiltration strategy will reduce incidence rate of infection and resistance. Moreover, resistance can be overcome by increasing antibioticsaction by combining it with herbs which have an active antibiotic compound such as Alang-alang.  This research aims to examine the group of semi polar compound, and examine those compound combinations with amoxcillin and chloramphenicol, measure the inhibition change toward S.aureus and E. coli.

Methods: The Methanol Extract is fractionated with silence phase by using Silica Gel and motion phase by using pure ethylacetate. The interaction between herbs and antibiotics is assessed by Ameri-Ziaei Double Antibiotic Synergism Test (AZDAST) method and the assessment of inhibition is by using Kirby-Bauer method. Phytochemical test is done with formaldehyde spray, FeCL3, and dragendorff of thin layer of chromatography. The result was analyzed by using SPSS with the significant level of p<0,05.

Results:Fractionation produces 10 fractions. Individually, all of the fractions are not active towards S. aureus dan E. coli. While combination, fraction 1 increases amoxicillin with a ZOI value of 5.66±5.13 activities and chloramphenicol with a ZOI value of 11.33±1.52  activities on  S. aureus. However, on E. coli the combination fraction 1 cause decreases chloramphenicol with a ZOI value of 15±0 . Fractions 1-8 contain alkaoid, and fractions 3-7 contain fenol.

Conclusion: Fractions 1 to 10 of Alang-alang do not contain compound which has an antibacterial activity. In Fractions 1 has alkaloids content. Fraction 1 has potential with amoxcillin and chloramphenicol towards S. aureus. However, it is antagonistic with chloramphenicoltowards E.coli.
