Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by increased plasma glucose levels and contributes to the onset of lipid metabolic disorders. Soybean seeds (Glycine max) and ginger rhizomes (Zingiber officinale) are used as an alternative to DM treatment and its complications, but research on the combination of both is still rare. This study to prove the effect of soybean seeds, ginger rhizomes, and their combinations on total cholesterol and serum triglyceride levels of DM mice.

Methods: This study used Sprague dawley male rats aged 4 weeks, weight 180-200 grams divided into 2 control groups and 4 test groups (n = 5 tails). High fructose lipid Diet (DTLF) and streptozotocine 25 mg / kg multiple dose BB were used as induction of DM. Soybean seed extract 5000 mg / kg BB, ginger rhizome extract 500 mg / kg BB, combination delja 1 2500: 250 mg / kg BB and delja 2 5000 combination: 500 mg / kg BB given orally for 30 days . Serum total cholesterol levels were measured by the CHOD-PAP method and serum triglyceride levels were measured by the GPO-PAP method. Data analysis using One Way Anova followed by LSD test (p <0.05).

Results: The administration of soybean seed extract, ginger rhizome, delja combination delja 1 and 2 decreased total cholesterol levels by approximately 10%, 15%, 25% and 20% compared to the positive group (p <0.05). While triglyceride levels can be reduced by about 40%, 50%, 60% and 60% compared to the positive group (p <0.05). Meanwhile the effect of DM induction on the positive control group increased total cholesterol and serum triglyceride levels 1.2 and 3 times compared to the normal control group (p <0.05

Conclusion: The administration of soybean seed extract, ginger rhizome and its combination can reduce total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in DM models
