TRAFFIC PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION ANALYSIS STUDY ON MUHARTO ROAD, MALANG CITY USING GREENSHIELD AND GREENBERG MODELING
Abstract
The growth of activities in Malang City has increased traffic volume, resulting in decreased performance of Jalan Muharto as a secondary collector road. This condition is indicated by congestion during peak hours caused by traffic demand exceeding road capacity. This study aims to analyze traffic flow characteristics and determine the most optimal mathematical model to explain the relationship between traffic volume, speed, and density on Jalan Muharto. The research method used direct field measurements to obtain data on the number of vehicles, speed, and traffic density, which were then analyzed using the Greenshield and Greenberg models through a regression approach. The results show that the degree of saturation is at Level of Service (LOS) F. Based on the r² value, the Greenberg model is the most optimal model, with an r² value of 98.8% on weekdays and 93.1% on weekends, outperforming the Greenshield model. Based on these findings, short-term traffic management measures include restricting vehicle movements during peak hours and installing right-turn prohibition signs with specific time panels. Meanwhile, the long-term measure involves widening the left road shoulder to improve road capacity and overall road performance.
