Abstract


ABSTRACT

The SP VII Irrigation Area is located in Mimika Regency, precisely in Kuala Kencana District, with an irrigation service area of 171.1 Ha. This area faces serious problems related to water availability during the dry season, where the available water is limited and not enough to meet the needs of all rice fields. As a result, only rice fields that are close to the irrigation canal gates can be irrigated, while fields further away are inaccessible, resulting in a decrease in agricultural productivity. One solution proposed to overcome this problem is to optimize water distribution according to field conditions. This research uses a linear programming method processed via Solver in Microsoft Excel to optimize water use for rice fields. The aim of this research is to determine efficient planting patterns and adjust the height of irrigation gate openings according to the water flow available in the field, so as to maximize agricultural profits. Based on the research results, the current planting pattern, namely rice/padi-padi/palawija-padi/palawija, produces a total productivity of IDR. 16,227,776,172,- and a profit of Rp. 2,344,296,732,- for a planting area of 171.1 Ha. The research also found that the best irrigation gate opening height was found in Planting Season III Secondary Channel (Pintu Sadap) 4 with a height of 0.564 m. Meanwhile, the lowest door opening height was found in Planting Season I of Secondary Channel (Tapping Door) 12, with a height of 0.1 m.
