PENERAPAN MODEL ARGUMENTATIF TOULMIN DALAM STRATEGI “CLAIM DAN SUPPORT†PADA CARA BERPIKIR KRITIS MAHASISWA DALAM MENULIS PARAGRAF ARGUMENTATIF
Abstract
Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginfestigasi keefektifan Model Argumentasi Toulmin dalam strategi “Claim dan Support†pada kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa dalam menulis esai argumentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain eksperimen semu dengan tes awal dan tes akhir pada grup yang sudah ditentukan. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 35 mahasiswa semester empat jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Islam Malang. Kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa diukur dengan cara menilai paragraf argumentasi mereka. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan beberapa temuan, diantaranya: Pertama, nilai p (Sig.) lebih tinggi dari pada level signifikan α = 0.05 (0.239 > 0.05 yang berarti bahwa H01 diterima. Kedua, nilai p (Sig.) lebih tinggi dari pada level signifikan α = 0.05 (0.528 > 0.05) yang berarti bahwa H02 diterima. Ketiga, nilai p (Sig.) lebih tinggi dari pada level signifikan α = 0.05 (0.678 > 0.05) yang berarti bahwa H03 diterima. Keempat, nilai p (Sig.) lebih tinggi dari pada level signifikan α = 0.05 (0.231 > 0.05) yang berarti bahwa H04 diterima. Dengan demikian dapat diartikan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa yang dilihat pada hasil paragraf argumentasi antara mahasiswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan Model Argumentasi Toulmin dengan strategi “Claim dan Support†dan mahasiswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan Model Argumentasi Toulmin tanpa strategi “Claim dan Supportâ€. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Model Argumentasi Toulmin dalam strategi “Claim dan Support†tidak terbukti efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa dalam menulis esai argumentasi.
