PERBANDINGAN MORFOMETRI DAN BOBOT BADAN ANAK DOMBA DORPER CROSS TEXEL DAN CROSS MERINO LEPAS SAPIH FILIAL PERTAMA DAN FILIAL KEDUA
Abstract

COMPARISON OF MORPHOMETRIC TRAITS AND BODY WEIGHT OF WEANED DORPER CROSS TEXEL AND CROSS MERINO LAMBS OF F1 AND F2
Abstract
Crossbreeding with exotic sheep is one breeding strategy for improving the productivity of local sheep. This study aimed to compare the morphometric traits (body height, body length, and chest circumference) and body weight of weaned F1 and F2 Dorper Cross Texel and Cross Merino lambs. The study was conducted from May to June 2026 at PT Dorper Agrotama Investa, Njiwut Village, Nglegok District, Blitar Regency, using 80 male lambs aged 3 to 4 months. The lambs were divided into four groups: Cross Texel F1, Cross Texel F2, Cross Merino F1, and Cross Merino F2, with 20 lambs per group. A quantitative comparative method with a 2 × 2 factorial analytical design (crossbred type × filial generation) was applied. Body weight was adjusted to 90 days of age, whereas morphometric data were obtained by direct measurement. Data were analyzed using factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Holm-adjusted simple-effects tests when the interaction was significant. Crossbred type affected body height (P < 0.05) and chest circumference (P < 0.01), with Cross Texel showing higher means than Cross Merino (body height: 50.85 vs. 49.45 cm; chest circumference: 65.48 vs. 62.13 cm). Body length was affected by the interaction between crossbred type and filial, with a significant difference between crossbred types found only in F2. Crossbred type and filial affected body weight (P < 0.001), and their interaction was also significant (P = 0.036). Cross Texel F1 lambs had significantly higher body weight (22.99 kg) than Cross Texel F2 lambs (20.18 kg), whereas Cross Merino F1 and F2 lambs did not differ significantly. Cross Texel lambs, particularly F1 lambs, had higher body weight and therefore warrant further evaluation as breeding candidates while considering pedigree, birth type, and reproductive indicators.
