Abstract

This study aims to analyze the synergy between PAI and the Adiwiyata Mandiri Program in integrating religious values and environmental awareness into PAI learning and madrasah culture, as well as its implementation in developing students’ Islamic character and environmental awareness at MAN 1 Nganjuk. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the madrasah principal, PAI teachers, the Adiwiyata team, and students. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, while data validity was established through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results show that the synergy between PAI and the Adiwiyata Mandiri Program is realized through the integration of religious values and environmental awareness into PAI learning and madrasah culture through habituation and exemplary practices. Values such as trustworthiness (amanah), the human role as khalifah (steward) of the Earth, cleanliness, and environmental care are manifested in students’ behaviors, including maintaining cleanliness, sorting waste, conserving resources, and caring for the environment. This synergy contributes to the development of students’ Islamic character, particularly discipline, responsibility, environmental care, and cooperation, while strengthening a religious and environmentally conscious madrasah culture. Its implementation is supported by the commitment of the madrasah community and various stakeholders, while the main challenges include uneven awareness, inconsistent implementation, and limited facilities and budgetary resources.
