PERAN KEPALA MADRASAH DALAM MEMBENTUK KARAKTER RELIGIUS SISWA DI MADRASAH TSANAWIYAH ATTARAQQIE MALANG

Abstract

The moral degradation occurring at both global and national levels presents a challenge for educational institutions seeking to cultivate students’ religious character. Admist this phenomenon, MTs Attaraqqie Malang stands out; its students demonstrate religous character evindenced by habitual acts of worship, polite conduct, a sense of reponsibility, and discipline. This study aims to examine the role of the madrasah principal in shaping students’ religious character. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the principal plays a role in all madrasah activities across three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. Planning involves formulating religious character programs; implementations is carried out through the habitual practice of religious activities, the principal acting as a role model, the provision of necessary facilities and infrastructure, and the involvement of the entire madrasah community. Meanwhile, evaluation is conducted through supervision, guidance, coordination, and follow up actions regarding the programs. The study demonstrates that the principal employs a collaborative and sustainable leadership style that fosters a madrasah culture conducive to the development of students’ religious  character.
