PERAN GURU PENDIDIKAN AGAMA ISLAM DALAM MEMBENTUK KARAKTER SISWA KELS XI DI SMA BRAWIJAYA SMART SCHOOL MALANG

Abstract

The role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers has become increasingly important in strengthening students' character amid the moral challenges faced by adolescents in the digital era. This study aims to describe the role of PAI teachers in developing students' discipline and responsibility, analyze the implementation of the violation point system, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting character development at SMA Brawijaya Smart School Malang. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with PAI teachers, character-building teachers, and Grade XI students, as well as documentation of school regulations. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that PAI teachers play strategic roles as educators, role models, mentors, motivators, and moral supervisors through religious habituation, exemplary behavior, and spiritual guidance. Furthermore, the violation point system functions not merely as a disciplinary mechanism but as an educational instrument integrating Islamic values into students' daily behavior. Supporting factors include a religious school culture, consistent school policies, collaboration among teachers, and parental support, whereas external social influences constitute the primary obstacle. The study concludes that the integration of PAI teachers' active roles with an educationally oriented violation point system effectively strengthens students' discipline and responsibility.
