Abstract

This research examines the internalization of Ahlussunnah Wal Jama'ah (Aswaja) values through school culture in shaping students' tolerance attitudes at SMA Islam Nusantara Malang. The main issue addressed is the suboptimal tolerance behavior among students amid diverse cultural and regional backgrounds within the school environment. This study is positioned as a qualitative case study that seeks to explore: (1) which Aswaja values are internalized through school culture; (2) how the internalization process is implemented; and (3) what implications the internalization holds for students' tolerance attitudes. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving the school principal, vice principal for student affairs, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, and students. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, encompassing data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that four core Aswaja values tawasuth (moderation), tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (balance), and i'tidal (justice) are embedded through religious habituation, the 5S culture, social activities, and role modeling by teachers. The internalization unfolds in three stages: value introduction, dialogical interaction, and habituation. These processes result in an inclusive school environment, harmonious social interaction, and the emergence of empathy, cooperation, and mutual respect among students.
