PENGUATAN PENDDIKAN KARAKTER MELALUI BUDAYA RELIGIUS DI SEKOLAH MENENGAH PERTAMA ISLAM TERPADU INSANTAMA MALANG

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of character education strengthening through religious culture at SMPIT Insantama Malang in response to the moral decline among students amid globalization, which demands schools to integrate not only cognitive development but also moral and spiritual values. The position of this research lies in providing a comprehensive analysis of religious-based character education by focusing on program design, implementation, and evaluation as an integrated system within Islamic school culture. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, vice principal of student affairs, Islamic education teachers, and students. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation used to ensure data validity. The findings reveal that the character education program is implemented through structured religious habituation activities, including congregational dhuha prayer, dhikr, Asmaul Husna recitation, short religious speeches, pledges, and Qur’anic memorization evaluation (TES). The implementation is systematically supported by structured planning, continuous supervision, and involvement of all school members. Evaluation is conducted through regular meetings, direct observation, and reports from teachers and homeroom teachers. The study concludes that religious culture-based character education is effectively internalized through continuous habituation, role modeling, supervision, and evaluation, leading to improved student religiosity, discipline, responsibility, and social behavior within the school environment.
