Abstract

Learning independence is a vital aspect in the educational process, especially at the Vocational High School (SMK) level which demands work readiness and personal responsibility. However, a general phenomenon shows that the level of student learning independence in Indonesia still needs to be improved. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in shaping student learning independence at SMK Negeri 5 Malang. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data collection techniques include participatory observation, in-depth interviews with PAI teachers and students, and documentation. Data analysis uses the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results of the study show that: (1) Planning is carried out collectively through teacher council meetings and the preparation of Learning Implementation Plans (RPP) that integrate the value of independence; (2) Learning implementation applies a student-centered approach through presentation methods, project-based assignments (such as creating social media/video content), and utilizing learning environments outside the classroom (library, reading corner); (3) Evaluation is carried out continuously through monthly meetings and holistic assessments that include cognitive, affective (initiative, responsibility), and psychomotor aspects. This study concludes that Islamic Education teachers play a strategic role not only as teachers, but as effective facilitators and motivators in fostering students' learning independence.
