Abstract

Congregational prayer activities at school play an important role in shaping students’ religious character. At SMAN 1 Malang, congregational prayer is not only considered an obligatory act of worship but also serves as a means to cultivate discipline, responsibility, and spiritual awareness. This study is motivated by the phenomenon of some students who are still inconsistent in attending congregational prayers, highlighting the need for continuous strategies in fostering students’ religious character. The main research question is how the implementation of congregational prayer activities can shape students’ religious character at SMAN 1 Malang. This study occupies a position as a qualitative research in the field of religious education and character development, focusing on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of congregational prayer activities. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation to obtain in-depth data on the practices in the school. The findings indicate that congregational prayer, when carried out regularly and integrated with spiritual guidance, can enhance students’ worship discipline, foster a sense of responsibility, and strengthen their religious awareness. This study provides practical contributions for schools in optimizing religious activities as a medium for developing students’ religious character.
