PERAN GURU PENDIDIKAN AGAMA ISLAM DALAM MEMBENTUK SIKAP TOLERANSI SISWA BEDA AGAMA DI SMP BRAWIJAYA SMART SCHOOL MALANG
Abstract
This qualitative case study examines the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in fostering tolerance among students of different religions at SMP Brawijaya Smart School Malang. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with a PAI teacher and several non-Muslim students, and document analysis. The analysis followed Miles and Huberman's interactive model (data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification). Findings indicate that PAI teachers play a strategic role in cultivating tolerance through a three-stage social construction process: externalization, objectification, and internalization. Pedagogical strategies include storytelling, reflective questioning, role modeling, and structured cross-faith interactions. Challenges include family backgrounds, limited parental understanding of tolerance, and occasional misconceptions among students. The study suggests strengthening teacher training on multicultural education and institutionalizing school policies that support inclusive practices.
