Abstract

Abstract

Rice is the most important food crop in the world. Almost 98% of Indonesia's population, fulfilling their carbohydrate needs, depends on rice. Agricultural innovation encourages the use of superior varieties to increase yields and realize rice self-sufficiency, while farmers have different attitudes and preferences towards existing superior varieties of rice seeds. The purpose of this study was to analyze farmers' preferences for the use of superior varieties of rice seeds in Banjararum Village. Determination of location is purposive in Banjararum Village, sampling using simple random sampling method with a total of 66 respondents. The data analysis method used in this research is conjoin analysis. The results of conjoin analysis, seen from the utility estimate value at the level of each attribute, farmers prefer superior rice seeds that cost Rp50,000-80,000 with 5 kg packaging, certified, medium planting age, and resistant to disease and weather. Judging from the importance value, the attribute of disease and weather resistance gets the highest value, which indicates that resistance is the most important aspect in selecting superior rice seed varieties compared to other attributes. Rice seeds that have disease and weather resistance tend to provide greater opportunities to produce stable and optimal production. Thus, seed resilience not only leads to higher yields, but also minimizes the risk of crop failure, which in turn has a direct impact on farmers' income and farm sustainability.
