ANALISIS PERMINTAAN BERAS IMPOR PADA RUMAH TANGGA DI PROVINSI JAWA TIMUR
Abstract
Rice is a strategic food in Indonesia, a staple food source of carbohydrates for households in Indonesia, including in the province of East Java. Rice prices vary greatly and the stability of rice prices greatly determines national political stability. The price of rice also greatly determines the level of people's welfare. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence rice demand in East Java Province. The research uses secondary data in the form of data from the National Socio-Economic Survey collected by the Central Bureau of Statistics. The research data is in the form of household consumption and expenditure data on all food sources of carbohydrates, namely the grain and tuber groups. Apart from that, the research data also includes household socio-economic factors into the model, namely data on income and number of household members. The total research sample was 32,455 households. The rice demand model approach uses a multiple linear regression model. The research results show that households in East Java consume rice as a staple food source of carbohydrates with an increasing trend over the last five years. The price of rice has a high influence on the demand for rice in East Java. Food substitutes for rice are sticky rice, wheat and shelled corn, corn rice and titi corn. Meanwhile, complementary foods to rice are cassava and potatoes. Income and number of household members also greatly influence the demand for rice in East Java. An interesting finding is negative income, according to Engel's law, indicating that households in East Java have sufficient rice consumption. Given that rice is the main source of carbs for households, the research findings verify that the East Java Provincial government must continue to maintain rice price stability despite the province's negative income. To reduce household reliance on rice, it is also critical to promote the potential of local foods, particularly sticky rice, and corn rice, as alternatives to rice.
