Abstract

Character and moral formation among students through habituation integrated into the school culture is an important dimension of Islamic education. The 5S Habituation Program (Senyum, Salam, Sapa, Sopan, and Santun – Smile, Greeting, Address, Politeness, and Courtesy) is one of the efforts implemented at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 1 Kota Malang to instill Islamic values in students' daily lives. This study aims to describe the planning of the 5S Habituation Program, its implementation, and the process of forming Islamic culture through the program at MIN 1 Kota Malang. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants consisted of the head of madrasah, the vice head of student affairs, and students. Data were analyzed through four stages: data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was established through triangulation, peer discussion, and member checking. The findings show that the planning of the 5S Habituation Program was carried out systematically through a coordination meeting at the beginning of the school year, the arrangement of an implementation mechanism, the alignment of the program with the madrasah's vision and mission, and socialization to teachers and parents. Implementation took place in a structured manner every morning through the “Salam Satu Hati” (One Heart Greeting) welcoming activity at the school gate, followed by rotating morning activities consisting of exercise, congregational Dhuha prayer, and “SAPA CINTA.” The formation of Islamic culture occurred through routine activities, spontaneous behavior, role modeling by teachers and staff, and physical and institutional conditioning of the madrasah environment. Through this process, students became accustomed to displaying courteous behavior, mutual respect, careful speech, responsibility, discipline in worship, and noble character (akhlakul karimah).
