Abstract

This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and results of character edu[i]cation focused on environmental awareness through the Friday Clean-Up Program at SD Negeri Jatimulyo 5 Kota Malang. The background of this research stems from the low level of students’ awareness in maintaining school cleanliness, such as littering, neglecting class duty schedules, and showing a lack of responsibility toward school facilities. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results show that the planning of the program was carried out through meetings involving teachers, the school principal, and parents, followed by scheduling the Friday Clean-Up activities every three weeks and dividing cleaning areas based on grade levels. The implementation involved all school members under the supervision of teachers, although several challenges were found, such as uneven student participation and suboptimal waste sorting practices. The program positively impacted students’ character development, evident from their improved sense of responsibility, discipline, cooperation, and awareness of maintaining cleanliness both at school and at home. Overall, the Friday Clean-Up Program is proven to be an effective strategy for instilling sustainable environmental care values and supporting the realization of Pancasila Student Profiles who demonstrate strong character and environmental awareness.
