IMPLEMENTASI KEGIATAN MARKET DAY DALAM MENUMBUHKAN KETERAMPILAN BERHITUNG SISWA PADA MATA PELAJARAN MATEMATIKA DI KELAS 2 MI SUNAN GIRI WONOKERSO
Abstract
This research investigates how the Market Day activity contributes to the development of arithmetic skills in Grade 2 students at MI Sunan Giri Wonokerso, addressing concerns over conventional mathematics teaching that lacks engagement and contextual relevance. Positioned within qualitative descriptive research, the study explores the application of contextual learning through simulated real-life economic activities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, focusing on planning, implementation, and outcomes of the Market Day program. Findings show that students actively practiced addition and subtraction during transactions, enhancing their mathematical understanding in meaningful ways. The study reveals that Market Day effectively integrates real life arithmetic operations such as calculating prices, giving change, and estimating profit into a fun and motivating learning experience. This method improved student procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and contextual application of mathematics. The research contributes to the growing evidence that experiential learning can bridge abstract concepts with tangible practice in early mathematics education..
