PENERAPAN METODE TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE (TPR) UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PENGUASAAN MUFRADAT SISWA MTS DARUL FALAH MALANG

This study aims to determine how the Total Physical Response (TPR) method is implemented in improving students’ vocabulary mastery and to identify the extent of improvement in vocabulary mastery after the implementation of the method among ninth-grade students at Darul Falah Islamic Junior High School Singosari. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of two cycles: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research participants were ninth-grade students of Darul Falah Islamic Junior High School Singosari. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation and were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The results of the study showed that the implementation of the Total Physical Response (TPR) method contributed significantly to the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery. The students’ mean score increased from 56.11 in the pre-cycle stage to 68.46 in the first cycle, representing an increase of 22.02%, and further increased to 73.75 in the second cycle, representing an increase of 7.72%. In addition, the percentage of students achieving mastery improved from 22.22% in the pre-cycle stage to 46.15% in the first cycle and reached 83.33% in the second cycle. Furthermore, students became more active and enthusiastic during the learning process and were able to understand and retain vocabulary more effectively through learning activities that integrated language with physical movement. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Total Physical Response (TPR) method is effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery in Arabic language learning.
