This study aims to describe the process of teaching speaking skills (maharah kalam) using the snakes and ladders game as a learning medium for fifth-grade students at MI Negeri 1 Probolinggo, in this case to identify the challenges encountered during its implementation. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consist of the Arabic language teacher and the fifth-grade students of MI Negeri 1 Probolinggo. The findings reveal that the modified snakes and ladders game is able to increase students’ active participation, create an enjoyable learning atmosphere, and encourage students to be more confident in speaking Arabic. The game supports the application of the learning-by-playing principle, allowing students to learn naturally through engaging activities. However, several obstacles were identified during the teaching process, such as limited instructional time, the need for intensive supervision from the teacher, and the tendency of some students to focus more on the game than on the learning objectives. All in al, the use of the snakes and ladders game is considered an effective strategy for improving students’ speaking skills, provided that it is implemented with proper classroom management and good instructional planning.
