PELAKSANAAN KEGIATAN BAHASA DALAM MENGEMBANGKAN MOTIVASI SISWA KELAS VIII MTS MUALLIMAT MALANG DALAM PEMBELAJARAN BAHASA ARAB

Abstract
This study is motivated by the low learning motivation of eighth-grade students at MTS Mu’allimat Malang in learning Arabic. This condition is indicated by anxiety when speaking, low self-confidence, the perception that Arabic is difficult, as well as a lack of variety in teaching methods and a non-supportive language environment. Therefore, this research aims to: (1) identify the psychological problems experienced by students in learning Arabic; (2) describe the implementation of language activities in improving students’ learning motivation; and (3) identify the strengths and weaknesses of the applied method.This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was ensured through source and technique triangulation, as well as the researcher’s direct participation in the field. The results of the study show that: (1) students face various psychological problems, such as academic anxiety, low self-confidence, lack of awareness of the importance of Arabic, pressure from the learning environment, and boredom caused by monotonous methods; (2) the implementation of the direct method was carried out through the use of Arabic in classroom communication, conversation practice, educational games, real-life simulations, and positive reinforcement. These strategies proved effective in increasing students’ active participation, speaking confidence, and interest in learning Arabic; (3) the strengths of implementing language activities include fostering learning motivation, improving speaking skills, creating an enjoyable learning atmosphere, and encouraging students to think in Arabic, while the weaknesses lie in its difficulty to apply to beginners, its lesser emphasis on grammar, and its heavy dependence on teacher competence.
