HUBUNGAN ANTARA KOMPETENSI SISWA PADA MEMBACA DAN TAHAP PERKEMBANGAN KOGNITIF MENURUT JEAN PIAGET DI SMP ANNUR FUADI BANGKALAN MADURA

Abstract
This research examines the fact that students have different backgrounds and abilities, including learning interests, living environments, and cognitive approaches used in understanding texts. This research aims to determine: 1) the level of students' competency in reading comprehension skills at 2) the stages of students' cognitive development according to Jean Piaget's theory. 3) the relationship between students' reading competency and cognitive development. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The population of the study consists of all students from SMP Annur Fuadi Bangkalan Madura, and the sampling technique used is purposive sampling with a sample size of 30. Data collection methods include tests to measure students' reading comprehension competencies, a questionnaire assessing the cognitive development of junior high school students, and supporting interviews. Data analysis utilizes T-tests and Pearson correlation to test the research hypotheses. Based on data analysis, three conclusion points were obtained: 1) in reading comprehension competencies in Arabic, the majority of students (60%) have reading comprehension competencies in the good category. The average score obtained by each student is 25.38 out of a maximum scale of 30.00. 2) The results of the cognitive development assessment questionnaire based on Jean Piaget's theory show that students achieved a good score of 18 out of 30 students (60%) with an overall average score of 51.23 out of a scale of 80.00, thus being categorized as sufficient. 3)The results of the Pearson correlation analysis show that there is no significant relationship between reading comprehension skills and the cognitive development of students at SMP Annur Fuadi Bangkalan Madura.
