GROWTH DEVELOPMENT OF TOMATO PLANTS (Solanum lycopersicum esculantum L.) DURING THE APPLICATION OF NANOCOMPOST FERTILIZER ENRICHED WITH ZnO AND SiO2 NANOPARTICLES

Abstract


The decline in soil fertility due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers reduces soil productivity so that environmentally friendly solutions are needed. One way to overcome the problem of decreasing soil fertility is by combining the use of organic fertilizers and the application of nanotechnology in the form of nano-compost fertilizer enriched with ZnO and SiO2 nanoparticles. This study used a Simple RAK consisting of six treatments, namely; P0 (No treatment), P1 (100% NPK fertilizer), P2 (100g nano-compost fertilizer + 50% NPK), P3 (100g nano-compost + 0.01g ZnO nanoparticles + 50% NPK), P4 (100g nano-compost + 0.005g SiO2 nanoparticles + 50% NPK), and P5 (100g nano-compost + 0.01g ZnO nanoparticles + 0.005g SiO2 nanoparticles + 50% NPK). The observed variables included plant height, number of leaves, and leaf area. The experimental data were analyzed using variance analysis (ANOVA) with a 5% LSD test. The application of nano-compost fertilizer enriched with ZnO and SiO2 nanoparticles significantly affected the growth of tomato plants, where the P1 dan P4 treatment had the best effect on plant height, but the P5 treatment had the best effect on the number of leaves and leaf area variables.
