EFFICACY OF BOTANICAL PESTICIDES BASED ON PAPAYA (Carica papaya) EXTRACT FOR CONTROLLING (Spodoptera litura) ON MUSTARD PLANTS (Brassica juncea L.)

Abstract


Armyworms (Spodoptera litura) are the main pests in mustard greens. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of papaya leaf extract as a botanical pesticide to control armyworms. Conducted with a simple Randomized Block Design (RAK), treatments include: no extract (P0), a concentration of 10% papaya leaf extract + 90 water (P1), then increasing every 10% up to 100% (P10). The results showed that a concentration of 70% (P7) provided the highest efficacy in reducing the armyworm population in mustard greens, namely 52%, while the control (P0) showed no effect (0%), so the difference in efficacy reached 52%. At a concentration of 70%, the attack intensity was only 26.44%, much lower than the control which reached 80.66% (a difference of 54.22%). This indicates that papaya leaf extract at a concentration of 70% significantly reduced the intensity of pest attacks and increased the effectiveness of control.
