Abstract

Spinach is a vegetable that is widely cultivated by farmers throughout Indonesia. Green spinach production in Indonesia in 2019-2021 has decreased by 160 tons/ha. The decrease in production is caused by the continuous use of inorganic fertilizers which can reduce the function of the physical and chemical properties of the soil, resulting in reduced nutrients.

One way to increase nutrients is by applying organic fertilizers. Vermicompost is a mixture of earthworm manure with leftover media or feed in earthworm cultivation. Vermicompost contains high levels of N, P, and C-Organic nutrients. Manure is organic fertilizer derived from animal manure mixed with food waste and urine which contains the nutrients N, P, and K which can be used to improve soil fertility. The purpose of this study was to determine the interaction between the application of organic fertilizers at different doses on the growth and yield of spinach (Amaranthus tricolor L).

This research was carried out in June - August 2022 which took place at the Perum Land, Jl. Graha Soeroso Residence, Malang City. This study used a factorial randomized block design (RBD) with controls. The first factor (P) is the type of organic fertilizer, where P1 = vermicompost and P2 = manure. The second factor is the dose of fertilizer (D), where D1 = 10 tonnes/ha, D2= 20 tonnes/ha, and D3 = 30 tonnes/ha. Observations were made every 5 HST by way of revocation. Observational data were tested with an analysis of variance (F test) 5% and continued with a 5% BNT test.

The results of this study were interactions between the application of vermicompost fertilizer with different doses on the growth and yield of spinach plants. P1D3 treatment (vermicompost at a dose of 30 tons/ha) gave a better response to the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, fresh weight of roots, fresh weight of leaves, total fresh weight, dry weight of leaves, dry weight of stover, and weight totally dry at all ages of observation (7-35 DAP) on green spinach plants.
