Abstract

ABSTRACT

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is a tuber that is widely used as a source of carbohydrates or staple food for the world community after wheat, corn and rice. As tubers, potatoes are quite prominent in their nutritional content. The increase in demand for potatoes in Indonesia should be in line with the increase in production. Potato varieties that are widely cultivated today are Granola potatoes for vegetables and Atlantic for processing. Some of the potato germplasm in Indonesia have not been registered as a variety, so it is necessary to register the varieties of some of the existing germplasm. In order to register a variety, it is necessary to have a qualitative and quantitative description of the variety as well as the results of the superiority test of the variety (38/Permentan.OT.140/7/2011). The genotypes resulting from this characterization test are expected to fulfill the main requirements for the description of varieties so that varieties can be registered in the end.

The research was conducted in Jurang Kuali Hamlet, Sumber Brantas Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City. This experiment used a simple randomized block design (RBD) with a variety of clones consisting of five levels: P1 (clone LJPRAP4 No. 1); P2 (LJPRAP4 clone No.2); P3 (LJPRAP4 clone No.3); P4 (LJPRAP4 clone No.4); P5 (LJPRAP4 clone No.5). Each treatment was repeated 3 times using 3 samples for observation. Variable observations made were growth variables which included: plant height, stem diameter, number of stems, number of leaves, and leaf area, tuber length and tuber diameter; and production variables which include: tuber weight per plant, tuber weight per mound, and tuber weight per hectare. The data from the experimental results were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA, F test) with a level of 5% to determine the effect of the treatment if there was a significant treatment effect followed by a BNT follow-up test with a level of 5%.

The results of this study showed that the best potato plant growth was found in LJPRAP4 clones No.3 and No.4 and the best potato tuber yields were found in LJPRAP4 clones No.4 and No.5. The yield potential of the LJPRAP4 No.5 clone potato plant weight was 5020.67 g/mound. Characteristics and morphology of potato clones are different. The striking difference is the shape and color of the flowers, in which the LJPRAP4 No. potato clone. 5 purple flowers and wavy shape and tuber shape that is oval. While the other flowers are white and the tubers are round.
